Barcelona, capital of Catalonia
Located on the northeastern coast of the Iberian peninsula and the shores of the Mediterranean, Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain. It is also the capital of Catalonia.There are two official languages spoken in Barcelona: Catalan, generally spoken in all of Catalonia, and Castillian Spanish.
Its geographic location as much as its history and culture make Barcelona a mediterranean city. It was founded as a Roman city in the second century B.C. Barcelona has become a major tourist destination enriched by a fabulous cultural heritage. The city is renowned these days for the spectacular works of Antonio Gaudi, artist belonging to the modernist Art Nouveau movement, but with a very individualistic style.
