Mystic and legendary
Devin Castle is wrapped in the legend of Great Moravia - country of Slavs, of those very old times from the 7th century when Slavs as Polish, Czechs, Slovakians, and Ukrainians...used to have one country lead by the famous dynasty of Mojmirs and Samo... Devin castle is situated in Bratislava suburb called Devinska Ves and it's surrounded by beautiful nature and amazing views from the cliff onto the Danube river. You can see from there how the Slovak Danube flows to the Austrian Danube while you are standing on ruins of the biggest castle in Europe and feeling all that mystic history around...
Devin Castle survived many battles, many barbarians, till Napoleon didn't demolish it... Therefore Slovakians based a statue of Napoleon on the main square with a very silly hat as a joke of 21st century! Nowadays the ruins of Devin castle still remain as Slovakian pride that here was the main seat of Great Moravia. You can go to visit Devin either by boat or take public transport with your private guide and walk up the old Slav steps.
